Leigh Rotarys Bike Ride for Rotary Internationals End Polio Now campaign took place on Saturday 24th February, with cyclists from the club and members friends, all breaking into a sweat for a good cause! The collection raised £338 and Bill Gates will add a twice that amount to make it up to £1014.
Most people seemed to donate when they saw that it was Rotary, rather than because they saw End Polio Now, so apart from raising funds for this worthy cause, the event certainly raised the profile of our Rotary Club.
Our local Tesco Superstore was really helpful and other Rotary Clubs should develop a relationship with such stores, as most now have Community Managers who have to ensure that they get involved with community and charitable organisations. As it helps them in their role, they are usually only too pleased to be associated with Rotary and to assist with our collections.
