In association with the Manchester International Society, the Foundation and International Committee of the Rotary Club of Stockport Lamplighter implemented the RocketWorld project in All Saints CE Primary School in Heaton Norris, Stockport on Tuesday 7 November 2017.
The RocketWorld project is an intercultural learning adventure for 7-11 year olds. It aims to enrich the curriculum of primary school children, broaden their horizons and encourage language learning.
Volunteers from ten countries, who are students at local universities, used their laptops, artefacts and their nations flags to explain to the children the geography, the customs and the culture of their countries. A giant inflatable Earth with NASA satellite imagery was exhibited in the school hall. Children were very enthusiastic to learn and participated in several activities.
Joan Ebbrell (Rotary Club of Stockport Lamplighter) worked with the volunteers and helped with childrens activities. Najib Yousif and John Palmer (Rotary Club of Stockport Lamplighter) made a brief visit to the school and spoke with the children, the volunteers, the teachers and the headteacher. The school was very pleased with the project and thanked the Rotary Club of Stockport Lamplighter for financing the project.
