In April 2017, Rotarians from Eccles attended the RIBI conference in Manchester where they were moved by the story of Russell Grant's grandmother and the affect her dementia had on her family. The effect this had on our members was considerable and we decided to hold an event to support the work of the Alzheimer's Society linked the newly established Dementia Hub at Salford University.
Following the success of the "Purple4Polio" tea party Past President Julie Larkinson contacted George's Restaurant & Bar in Worsley who laid on a special 3 course lunch complete with wine from their suppliers Bibendum.
Marks & Spencer (Bolton) worked with the club on the project and provided a show of current fashion items and a skin care demonstration and the whole event was compared by Rotary Friend and Alzheimer's ambassador So Rahman ( formerly of Granada and now of Al Jazeera TV).
More than 70 guests attended the event which raised over £800 for research and local activities.
