Tameside Rotary Club recently held a Bangladesh Charity Week in aid of the Rotary Eye Hospital in Sylhet, Bangladesh.
Following a visit by three members of Tameside Club to Bangladesh and India, where they met John Miles and his wife Fiona from Guildford Rotary Eye Project who have already established over 30 eye hospitals, the club decided to raise funds to equip an existing Eye Clinic (operated by The Just Help Foundation) into a fully equipped and operational Eye Hospital.
Together with the local Bangladeshi community in Tameside, it was agreed that the best way of raising public involvement was to hold a Bangladesh Charity Week involving schools, local businesses, churches/mosques and other organisations. The whole week was supported by Tameside Radio. Highlight was a special Asian Dinner on Tuesday 23rd May.
Past President Andy also available to visit clubs and tell you more about his trip and the project.
