Wigan Rotary Clubs new President has been inducted. A Wiganer through and through Gwyneth Millard has enjoyed a very busy life. In the seemingly long distant past she was a teacher in several Wigan Schools with a specialism in teaching children with learning difficulties, which was a job she loved and one which she assumed she would continue for the rest of her working life. However, following retirement, she soon discovered volunteering (once a dirty word in her book) and life became fuller than she had ever imagined.
She gained confidence in speaking in public by joining a Speakers Club and when she founded the Wigan & District Speakers club it led to her being invited to help with the Wigan Rotary ClubsYouth Speaks programme. Volunteering quickly became part of her life and Wigan Rotary Club was the place to do it.
She is very proud to be only the second woman President of the Club and intends to use every moment of her year in office to promote the Club and the work it does. Among other things, she hopes to help to establish a Recycling initiative in the town and enlist the help of as many young people as possible.
She says being a Rotarian isn't just a hobby it's a way of life and one she would not change.
