From support for deaf children to help for an Over 60s group, nine local groups went away with a donation from the recent Wigan Rotary Clubs Dragons Den event. Twenty five organizations applied and the three dragons, Rotary President Maureen Bilsbrough, former Westfield Childrens Centre manager and Rtn. Aujke Clegg OBE, and chartered accountant Peter Cheetham invited eleven groups to pitch for a share of £5000.
Wigan Rotary President Maureen Bilsbrough said, It was a tremendous evening and Wigan Rotary Club was delighted to be able to help the wonderful work undertaken. In these hard economic times it is surprising the difference a few hundred pounds can make. It was also humbling to see how many people are prepared to give up their time to help others.
She continued However this event would not be possible without the generous donations of the Wigan residents mainly last December when we accompanied Santa and his sleigh around the area. We hope this event shows we are using their donations wisely and for the benefit of the local community.
