In support of RIBI initiative "Gift of Sight", Tameside has joined forces with Guildford Rotary Eye Project (who have already set up and operate over 30 eye hospitals) and Just Help Foundation, a
British registered charity supporting humanitarian work in Bangladesh.
In January three Tameside Rotarians travelled to Bangladesh to meet local Rotarians and to inspect the building planned to be the Eye Hospital. They then travelled on to Calcutta
to see at first hand five existing Rotary Eye Hospitals.
At this stage an application for a Rotary Global Grant is being submitted to purchase the necessary medical equipment to carry out various eye operations including the removal of cataracts.
In Tameside we are holding a British Bangladesh Charity Week with the support of local radio to encourage local awareness and raise funds. There will be a special Asian Dinner with Entertainment on Tuesday 23rd May cost £15
