The Rotary Club of Stockport Lamplighter held an event on Wednesday
19 April 2017 at Heaton Moor Golf Club to celebrate the Centenary of The Rotary Foundation.
The Mayor and the Mayoress of Stockport Councillor Chris Gordon and Dr Margaret Gordon, the District Governor Stan Bowes PHF and the District Foundation Committee Chair Mike Payne MPHF attended the event.
After the dinner, Najib Yousif, the chair of the Foundation and International Committee highlighted some milestones in the rich history of The Rotary Foundation. This was co-ordinated with the music that was played by talented young musicians: Leo Strelle (Violin), Lucy Warm (Piano), Ellen Buller (Flute) and Nina Rivas (Cello).
Two Club Members, Richard Hardman and Neil Slack were recognised as Paul Harris Fellows and were jointly presented with their PHF certificates and pins by the District Governor and the President of the Club Bernadette Holgate.
President Bernadette made the announcement that last February we sadly had to say goodbye to a dear friend and fellow Lamplighter. The former Foundation chair always supported and championed the good work done by the Rotary's own charity and left The Rotary foundation £6,000 in his will.
