Biddulph Rotary have again been working with the Stroke Association, offering free blood pressure checks at Sainsburys store, on Saturday last, 22nd April. High blood pressure is identified as the cause of over half of all strokes suffered in the UK.
A total of 218 tests were undertaken this year in the non-stop 6 hours session. Of those persons tested 47 were found to have high blood pressure and 34 were advised to consult their GP within a month; 13 of the 47 had a blood pressure reading so high that they were advised to make an appointment with their GP within the week.
The event was a great success and Rotary Biddulph would like to pass on particular thanks to Sainsburys for hosting the event and to the Health Care professionals, Lesley Lomas, Nurse Practitioner; Helen Birchall District Nurse; Jacky Nevil, Liz Snow, Tracey Unwin and Kelly Clack from Biddulph Moor First Responders and Carol from Biddulph Red Cross for their attendance without the BP taker there would be no event.
This was the second year Sainsburys have hosted the event and store manager Duncan Thomson has already expressed an interest in hosting the event again in 2018.
