The Rotary Club of Macclesfield Castle recently held it's annual Swimathon at the Macclesfield Leisure Centre.
This is the 17th anniversary of this popular event with a total of 36 teams taking part comprising of 188 swimmers who swam in 45 minute sessions throughout the afternoon and early evening.
The swimmers covered a total of 6,740 lengths of the pool which is equivalent to 168.7 kilometers!
The swimmers were urged on during the afternoon sessions with visits from the Deputy Mayor of Macclesfield, Councillor Beverley Dooley and David Rutley, MP for Macclesfield.
The team completing the most lengths (354) in the 45min session was the Spearings Family Butchers comprising the sisters Rachel, Sarah and Emma along with their mum, Jean and other family members. They were closely followed by one of the two Rotary Club teams that took part (The Bowen Arrows) who completed a total of 318 lengths.
