During the night of Thursday 6th April, three members of the Rotary Club of Alsager, along with one from the Rotary Club of Nantwich, were called out to assist with the manning of an Emergency Rest Centre at Ruskin Community High School, due to a street in Crewe being closed and the emergency services evacuating residents to the centre.
The photograph shows Rotarians Martyn, Tom and Don with Ashley the Rest Centre Manager for the night and was taken in Ruskin High School Crewe at 06:00 am just after the last of the evacuees had been returned to their homes or moved on to other more appropriate accommodation. They attended the centre from around 2am, after being phoned up by the Rotary Coordinator.
The Rotarians are all part of the Rotary Community Emergency Resilience team, along with a further 4 members, who were unable to attend on this occasion and are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to assist the Councils Emergency Planning teams.
They carry out any type of work from directing people to the centre, completing administration duties and could also assist in making refreshments.
Rotary International is an international community of 1.2million people, who carry out work within their own community, as well as the national and international community.
