Rotary Congleton have had a busy few weeks. The annual Swimathon at the beginning of March saw members & friends counting over 8,000 lengths that 327 swimmers swam over the two-day event. Over 50 teams entered the Swimathon, some with full teams of 6 or more swimmers and others taking on the solo challenge.
A number of members headed up by birthday girl Lorraine Sloane have been out into the town distributing over 50 giant Easter Eggs to pubs, clubs, restaurants and other outlets for the annual Easter Egg bonanza.
A number of Congletons young people have been taking part in Rotary competitions. Laura Mills (13), a pupil at Eaton Bank Academy took part in the Rotary Regional Young Chef Final competition held at Hopwood Hall College in Rochdale. Laura was the youngest contestant and was very highly commended.
Following the Young Chef competition Congleton Rotary staged the District Young Musician competition at New Life Church hall. Young musicians came from as far afield as Bury in Lancashire to take part in this very prestigious event sponsored by Yamaha, the world famous musical instrument manufacturer.
Congleton Rotary sponsored Georgia Lewis (17) playing the flute and Julia Teagle (17) playing the Alto Saxaphone. Both girls gave stunning performances but were sadly pipped to the post by the Marimba and Cello players who were undoubted stars of the instrumentalists section.
Rotary Congleton also sponsor Congleton Youth Orchestras spring concert that takes place in March in the Town Hall. We were also very pleased to present a cheque for £150 to the 1st Congleton Scout Troop towards new much needed camping equipment.
