Last Friday in the prestigious surroundings of the Oaklands Hall in Hyde, the Rotary Club of Hyde celebrated their 80th Charter Anniversary Dinner.
Local and national dignitaries were in attendance including the Civic Mayor of Tameside Cllr Phillip Fitzpatrick, Cllr Andy Kinsey, Cllr Maria Bailey, Rotary District Governor Stan Bowes and Rotary Club members from Tameside and Stockport Lamplighters Rotary Clubs.
The Rotary Club of Hyde are very proud of their heritage, having been founded in 1937 by local businessmen. These days things have changed within Rotary; the club is now mixed gender made up of both men and women, who meet weekly and enjoy a very active social life. Members work on behalf of, and within, the community and organise such events as the Gee Cross Fete, Father Christmas Sleigh etc. All profits from these activities are donated to local community projects every year. The District Governor Stan Bowes presented President Kevin Maddox with a 80th Charter Certificate.
Speaking to us after the evenings activities and food, President Kevin said "this is my second term as president of this wonderful club that is steeped in history and tradition, I am so proud to be president in this our 80th year, it was my pleasure to welcome all our guest and friends this evening and the guest speaker The Chester Town Crier David Mitchell who certainly kept everybody entertained I raise my glass for another 80 successful years for the Rotary Club here in Hyde".
