The third heat of the Rotary National "Young Chef " competition took place at Hopwood Hall College, Rochdale on Saturday 18th Of February. Rebecca Wilkinson of Woodhey High School was awarded 1st place by judges from the Marriott Airport Hotel.
A starter of Seared Scallops with lemon butter sauce and a pea and parmesan veloute was followed by a Smoked Haddock and Lancashire Cheese Soufflé with a poached egg, a cream of mustard sauce, watercress and pomegranate which the judges described as "perfect" . A pudding of "Eastern Mess" comprising meringue shards, whipped cream , macerated rosewater strawberries, raspberry coulis, pistachio nuts and pomegranate seeds completed the meal.
Rebecca will now go forward to the national final in Lincoln on 13th May where she will compete for a trip to Italy, courtesy of Filipo -Beria Olive Oil, to include kitchen work experience and some delicious Italian food
