The Annual Hyde Rotary Club Community Awards, were presented to individuals and organisations within the community at the Oakland's Hall Hyde last Thursday.
Rotary Club members were asked to nominated individuals or organisations who have the vision to not only improve the quality of life in Tameside but who also help their fellow human beings in their hour of need. President Kevin said every year we try to present these prestigious awards. Last year was a exception as we did not have nominations that fulfilled the strict Rotary International criteria, however this year I am pleased that our members nominated individuals who not only work endless hours sometimes for no financial reward, but are important and respected members of our community.
Kevin presented awards to : Gemma Clayton from Infinity Initiatives based in Ashton Under Lyne. Gemma and her team offer a advocate and support service for people who suffer with drug, alcohol , solvent abuse and homelessness. In conjunction with Greystones they offer a 24hr help line and often work without any financial reward.
Natalie Cooke from Finding Rainbows based in Denton offers a parent counselling support service for bereaved parents. From her small office in Haughton Green Natalie set up this support network following her own personal experience.
The final nomination was presented to Andrew Richardson the administrator and founder of the Facebook Page Hyde Past and Present. Over the last twelve months Andrew has built up the site to 8,500 members who all contribute to make Hyde a better place to live. Andy has also arranged litter picks and visits to the multi cultural place of worship and he also compéres at the Gee Cross Fete giving his time free of charge.
Following the presentations Kevin said tonight it's been a great honor for me in my year as President to meet members of our community who are worthy of our Community Awards.
