On Saturday March 4th, the Rotary Club of Ashton in Makerfield held an elegant afternoon tea (served by smartly dressed waitresses) at 1st Ashton Scout Headquarters in aid of the polio project.
The food was served on china cake stands with a selection of dainty sandwiches, scones and small cakes as well as home made cake slices. These were accompanied by a glass of fizz and tea or coffee. There was a large tombola and a clever "Guess the number of silk crocuses in the vase" to raise extra cash.
As this was one of the first tea parties to celebrate World Women's Day the club had received greetings from RIBI President Eve Conway who was in Cornwall for another event.
