The Rotary Club of Chadderton & Failsworth enjoyed yet another hugely fulfilling event involving members, guests and family on 9th February at the Crompton and Royton Golf Club when the Club presented three cheques totalling £6460 to be shared between Oldham Christie and Macmillan.
Not only that but also on the same evening, the Club entertained one of their sponsored schools taking part in the Rotary Youth Speaks competition, Beech House School, Rochdale.
In addition, the Clubs other sponsored school , Oldham Hulme Grammar, on the same evening won the competition in Lymm and are now through to the District Final on 4th March at Frodsham Community Centre.
As Club President Keith Quarmby rightly remarked there is no limit to the support that our members are willing to give the community
Much of the money raised for Oldham Christie and Macmillan results from the Chadderton & Failsworth Club magnificent bike ride in the summer of last year in Wales and Anglesey.
The Beech House Youth Speaks team comprised speaker Lucy Butterworth, chairman Joshua Scott and vote of thanks given by Fahad Akram. The team were accompanied by joint head of English Heather Stephenson. Lucys talk was entitled Bullying and contained some worrying statistics on this noxious topic. The team did well and was awarded plenty of applause with best wishes for the next round in Manchester.
