Two Manx charities, Rebecca House Children's hospice and the Pahar Trust Nepal, each received donations in excess of £4,000 from monies raised by a charity show organised by Rotary Clubs in the Isle of Man last November.
The Rotary Clubs of Ramsey and Rushen and Western Mann put on the wonderful variety show of mainly younger Manx talent that featured music, dance, harpists, singing and magic together with drama and swing band.
Chairman of the organising committee Terry Groves said " The show was fantastic, we had professional help from Sonia Callin and Kristene Sutcliffe in putting it all together, the acts were brilliant and the audience really enjoyed the evenings entertainment. Our intention was to showcase young Manx talent, raise the profile of what Rotary does within the Islands community and make a sizeable donation to the two charities. The young performers helped us achieve our target, raising valuable funds for the two worthy charities in support of children on the island and in Nepal"
In thanking the Rotary clubs for the donations Anne Mills referred to this being the 10th anniversary of Rebecca House and how appropriate this donation was to the important work of the charity in helping provide care for children with life limiting or life threatening illness.
Howard Green likewise expressed gratitude for the donation which would be put to immediate use replacing the school at Tamangkharka in Western Nepal which was destroyed in the 2015 earthquakes there. Education is supported world- wide by Rotary and it seems fitting that children in Nepal will benefit from this donation within the Centenary Year of Rotary International Foundation.
