Former Government minister Edwina Currie helped Altrincham Rotary Club's birthday celebrations go with a swing.

She was the guest of honour at Altrincham Rotary Club's 87th Charter (birthday) dinner. More than 150 Rotarians, wives and guests heard her give an amusing and informative talk at the Cresta Court Hotel, Altrincham.

Ms Currie - a health mister in Margaret Thatcher's government between 1986 and 1988 - praised the work of Rotarians worldwide for their sterling efforts in helping others, especially in helping eradicate polio worldwide where there are now only two countries who are affected.
Other speakers also added their thanks especially to the Altrincham Rotary Club for their continuing efforts in the community.

Altrincham Rotary president Stephen Woods was extremely pleased at the support shown on the evening. He also thanked the Rotarians for the great effort in helping the community.This year the members raised £1500 in a collection at Tesco Altrincham and also for the toys and tins appeal where nearly 3000 toys were collected and distributed ready for Christmas to needy families in the area. He also gave praise for the ongoing 'purple4polio' campaign which will see the town turn purple this spring after several thousand crocus corms were planted.
