Ever since a mum requested a grotto in the town centre of Eccles, Rotary members have endeavoured to respond over the Christmas period.
This year, our basic shed type grotto has been enhanced by the addition of a chimney and snow around the windows and across the roof thanks to the creative work by new member Brian.
The Christmas season began with the launch complete with singers, balloons, mulled apple juice and mince pies on November 19th and since then Santa has been busy each Saturday lunchtime, greeting children, hearing their Christmas requests and with the help of 1st Patricroft guides, distributing wrapped gifts (books) as part of our free Community Service.
On Saturday 3rd December, they were joined by 2 real reindeer (Sven and Ivy) who were penned next to the grotto and attracted extra interest and business for Santa.
The grotto has proved extremely popular again and was planned to operate for the next 2 Saturdays in addition to our Santa float outside Morrisons store and the Town Team event by Eccles Cross.
