The Chadderton & Failsworth bike ride Challenge in support of Prostate Cancer Research and many local charities has become an annual event.
The first was done by three members, Brendan Linnane, Keith Quarmby and Peter Fryer who cycled the Leeds to Liverpool Canal tow paths in 2014. In no small part down to their bravery and determination and in addition to their stature and tendency to get lost in the shires on the trip, they became known as the Chadderton & Failsworth Hobbits.
With both increased numbers and fitness last year in 2015 the challenge was the gruelling Way of the Roses from Morecambe to Bridlington. The team received the good wishes of many Rotary Clubs in the location of the route and triumphed, arriving all in one piece. Sponsorship was marvellous.
And so to this year 2016, 13 15 May with the team expanded yet again and including Chadderton & Failsworth Inner Wheelers Jane Fryer and Lynda Quarmby for much of the way. The challenge was Snowdonia and Anglesey. In total 200 miles of hilly terrain. The journey was a massive and tiring challenge but the spirit and fun of the bikers and supporters was tremendous.
Result success!
At the time of writing the donations have exceeded the £2000 mark and supporters can still engage on the JustGiving page Rotary Club of Chadderton & Failsworth
