Money raised by Rotary Charity Fundraisers who take part in the Ironman UK triathlon at Bolton, was donated to Fortalice (which means a small fort).
It is a Bolton based charity that assists woman and children who are affected by domestic abuse.
President of Horwich Rotary David Winstanley and vice-president Revd David Griffiths visited Lewis House, the women’s refuge in Bolton to present a cheque raised from the Bolton Ironman event. They heard from CEO Gill Smallwood and Children’s Services Team Leader Paula Pollitt, about the emergency accommodation and the range of support services to assist women, children and young people traumatised by the often violent abuse they have experienced at home across the social and economic classes.
“The effect on women and children is huge” said Mrs Smallwood. “Children can be withdrawn, find it difficult to trust people, be frustrated and disruptive. They need our help, but help and therapy is expensive and we have a long waiting list. This £200 cheque from Ironman athletes and Rotary, is very much appreciated."
