24th April finally saw the running of an event which had been 2 years in the planning and had delayed twice because of Covid.
The origin of event was a presentation given to Alsager Rotary by the Chair of Alsager Harlequins Cycle Club David Price, where he commented that they would like to find a method of raising charitable funds.
From this original comment a discussion took place from which sprang the idea of a reliability ride with Alsager Rotary providing the admin and logistic support and Cycle Club marketing the event with a view to attracting the participants.
It was agreed that all monies raised would be split equally with Alsager Rotary portion going towards the work done with local schools and the Cycle Club's portion going to Alsager Food Bank
The event itself took the form of 4 separate rides
a) A 50 mile event which included an ascent of the "Killer Mile" up Mow Cop
b) A 35 mile event to Audlem and Woore
c) A 10 mi family ride to Winterley
d) A 3 mile family ride via the Salt Line Way
The event was a great success with the weather being very favourable - all rides started and finished at the Horseshoe (here we should say thank you to Ozzy for use of his car park) with the 50 mile riders departing at 08.30 am with at least 50 participants with the other rides starting at 09.30 for the 35 mile ride and 10.30 for the two family rides. In excess of £1250 was raised, and given the success and the wonderful support received from local cyclists it is hoped to make this an annual event
