On Monday, 14th March, Widnes Rotary hosted a Thank You evening for many of the volunteers who helped out on their Christmas Float, which raised almost £20,000 for the local community. This was £6,000 more than had been collected in previous years, an amazing total, all thanks to the generosity of the Widnes public.
It was a very enjoyable evening during which the various groups were given donations from the float and shared details of where those monies would be used.
It was heartwarming to hear how much was happening in the community.
The crisis in Ukraine was highlighted, as many in the community had already come together to donate clothing and essential items to a local organisation for onward transportation.
The Rotary Shoebox scheme was explained as another way to help the desperate plight of the people of Ukraine and everyone was asked if they wished to take a box to fill.
The response was unexpected and overwhelming and as a result around 200 boxes will soon be on their way to the collection hub in Oldham.
