Members of the Foundation Committee of the Rotary Club of Douglas are pictured awarding certificates to pupils at Cronk y Berry School and Ashley Hill School as part of the annual Rotary Purple4Polio programme.
Over 400 children from 5 local schools grew purple crocuses and painted pictures to help support the Rotary campaign which seeks to raise awareness of the Rotary fight for a polio free world.
The purple crocus is a reminder of the ink placed on a childs finger during the immunisation days to eradicate the poliovirus globally, seeking by 2023 to reach every last child for a polio-free world. Rotary Great Britain and Ireland have this year planted over 2 million crocus corms.
The schools programme ties in with the public planting of crocuses which last year was in Summerhill Glen, Douglas at the lower entrance and which are in flower at the moment.
