The Rotary Club of Rochdale held their 94th Charter Night through the wonders of Zoom on 3rd December 2020.
President Neil Williams welcomed 52 guests including District Governor Peter, ADG John Shepley, the Editor of this esteemed newsletter and Deputy Mayor of Trafford PDG Chris Boyes, and Rotarians from Glossop, Middleton, Rochdale East, Heywood 2020, along with several Inner Wheel members.
Guest speaker was Councillor Billy Sheerin, the Mayor of Rochdale who recounted some of the many funny experiences of his public life.
Immediate Past President Ravi Sharma presented charitable donations to attendees from the Chai Project, Jaipur Limb and Maleria No More. He then went on to award Paul Harris Fellowships to Secretary Bob Chadwick and International Convenor John Holder for their service to the club and for their fund-raising efforts over the years.
President Neil, then presented Vice President Merrilyn Chadwick with a certificate from Rotary Foundation in appreciation of the money raised by the Club for End Polio Now. Merrilyn raised £1,250 in February by climbing Sydney Harbour Bridge.
The whole evening was very enjoyable and whilst there was no meal, the night kept its realism with many toasts proposed and drunk without the worry of the drive home.
