Sandbach Scouts and the Rotary Club of Sandbach have a long history of supporting one another in their projects.
Every year, the Scouts enter teams in the club's Swimathon with their mascot, Rikki, in attendance. Last year, they were offered an activity day at Petty Pool Outdoor Centre, near Northwich. This was part- funded by a District matching grant and was a great team-building day, enjoyed by all.
During the Covid restrictions, Zoom has allowed the Scouts to continue meeting. Guest speakers have joined them on some occasions and, some weeks ago, Rtn Eric Cowcill was asked to speak about Rotary. Eric explained the aims of the Rotary movement and how it is organised down to club level. He also spoke about how young people could become involved and mentioned the ShoeAid project in Rotary North West. Without hesitation the Scouts said that they wanted to adopt this as their winter charity.
A large collection of shoes gradually built up at the house of the Scout Leader and on the day before the current lockdown began, the second batch were officially handed over to Rotary President, Rtn David Barringer, to be stored in his garage until collected by ShoeAid.
