Last year, Rotary-Congleton, assisted by the Town Council launched its Tree of Light. The idea was simple. Stars were purchased and messages written in memory of a loved one. The stars were hung on the tree and the monies raised were donated to good causes.

This year, the Congleton Tree of Light is to become permanent annual attraction as a unique and special way to think of and to remember all our loved ones at Christmas. The Town Council and Congleton's William Dean Trust have assisted with the purchase and planting of the tree.

The Tree is a living Christmas Tree to be planted in the Lawton Street Community Garden behind the Cenotaph. In December the tree will come alive when it is illuminated by hundreds of lights. It will be surrounded by all the Stars, with each one carrying its personal message and memories.

The special, weather-proof stars are priced £5 each, and may be purchased from the Tourist Information centre at the Town Hall, Allens newsagents in Bridge Street and funeral directors in the town. Stars may also be ordered online and paid for on the “Just Giving” page on the Rotary-Congleton website where a message may also be left.
