In these difficult and unusual times like every Rotary club Bolton Lever RC also faced difficulties as the usual avenues of fund raising were not available. This is where our members creative instincts came in handy.
One of our members Rtn Dr Aruna Mene who is a prolific fabric artist decided to make and sell fabric masks made out of remnants and scrap fabrics she had. These became so popular and the timing was perfect at the beginning of the lock down that this raised more than £600 within a short span of 4 weeks.
The handmade masks were bought by Rotarians and non Rotarians from all over UK. She then did a zoom talk about her fabric art, entitled Around the world in 50 Fabric collages which generated well over £200 for our projects. In fact even now people want to see the recording of the talk by paying. In fact our treasurer commented This is the talk that keeps on giving . Aruna Mene is available for zoom talks and she gives all profits to various charities. Her website is www.arunamene.com
