The Rotary Club of Douglas was once again pleased to be able to assist the Isle of Man Foodbank with its collection drive at Tescos Manx store over three days in August. Working alongside other Foodbank volunteers, the Douglas Club provided many of its members to man the Collection point from 9.00 am until 7.30pm, as well as unloading trolleys, filling crates and helping with transport to Foodbank stores.
The three days were very busy and the generosity of the Manx public was quite overwhelming on several occasions an entire shopping trolley was handed over, filled to the brim!
At the end of the three days a total food value of £7,802 had been donated (which is equivalent to 377 Tesco crates), plus over £500 in cash donations.
Head of the Foodbank and Douglas Rotary member, Neal Mellon, commented that this has been our most successful collection experience ever and huge thanks must be given to Tesco, the amazing Manx public and all our volunteers. It was great to see so many of our Club members helping out and clearly having a great deal of fun whilst doing so.
