The picturesque parish church of St Mary in Sandbach is fronted along the high street with a line of very large lime trees. In the Spring the trees send up lots of shoots or suckers. To maintain the health of the trees and prevent them spreading over the adjacent footpath they need annual attention. This has been a community service project for the Rotary Club of Sandbach for a number of years.
In June, a team of four Rotarians (one of them complete with chain saw!) took on the task and completed it over two sessions, receiving many complimentary remarks from passers-by and thanks from the church.
It will need another session later in the year to keep the problem under control.
