Although, like most other organisations, Rotary has had to cancel most of the Community events that were planned for this year, some work that does not involve many people has been able to go ahead. Unfortunately the winter weather and the local wildlife have caused severe deterioration of both the furniture, the gardens and the Bateman walk pathway itself.
The first priority was to repair a dangerous hole in the pathway which had been caused by animals tunnelling under the path and to get rid of the soil and debris that had been thrown onto the path from the neighbouring burrows. This also necessitated repairs to the surface.
The benches alongside the walkway had also suffered some deterioration which needed some repairs to the woodwork and repainting. The fencing alongside the walk needed some repair and also had to be extended to keep animals off the pathway.
The Walk is now an important link between the old and new areas of the cemetery, so although all the maintenance work has not been completed, the Walk is safe to use again.
