The Rotary Club of Astley registered its 30th anniversary this Rotary year (July 2019 to June 2020). However, the Club's “normal” activities have been curtailed since mid March, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Amongst the cancellations was the Charter Evening, scheduled for later in March. Despite this, the Club has adapted to the necessary restrictions
enforced by the pandemic and members (and guests) have kept in good contact with each other, through fortnightly meetings, via Zoom technology.

Outgoing Club President, Mike Hack, has been both surprised and delighted that the Club has managed to continue activities during lockdown, with four excellent new projects carried out, in conjunction with various organisations, during the last three months –

The supplying of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for staff, and the supplying of tablets for residents, at local Care Homes and Hospices;

The supply of plants for vulnerable and elderly local people through a Golden Gardening project;

The provision of Food Parcels, to ensure that local children receive meals during the schools half term holiday;

The knitting and sewing of Woollen Hearts to donateto bereaved family members.

Additionally, the Club has continued its annual distribution of Dictionaries to local primary schools.

The Rotary Club of Astley will continue its activities, in accordance with government regulations and health advice, adapting where necessary to continue serving the local community.
