During these exceptional times I thought I would like to highlight the efforts of a new Rotarian Melanie Caffrey who along with her fellow workers has organised cutting and sewing Scrubs for the NHS during this lockdown period having been furloughed from her job as a manager for the family firm where she normally works full time running the factory.
She’s also, after spending her mornings doing that, down at her local charity Sandon House, where they are making Fish n Chips for the isolated and vulnerable. Melanie along with her daughter (who incidentally wants to form a Rota Kids Club)and other Rotarians from Heywood 2020, then delivers them.
Melanie is a true champion of the town spending her time organising the 1940’s day which is a massive event normally held in June and which brings in 10’s of thousands of people into Heywood, sadly cancelled for this year. Also a Christmas Festival in December for the towns lights switch on, a very busy lady indeed.
I am aware there’s lots of Rotarians doing brilliant things for their community and country but I’d thought this lady needed a special mention from a new club, Heywood Rotary 2020, as she is pushing the new ideals of New Rotary making us all proud with her tireless efforts of service above self.
