With the government imposing ever stricter controls over our daily lives due to the current virus millions of people across the country are slipping even deeper into hunger crisis.

Over 500 tonnes of food and non-food goods were donated in 2019 and with an ever increasing demand it is crucial in the fight against UK hunger that a steady supply is maintained and especially during the present situation we are experiencing.

No strangers to providing compassionate and practical support to those less fortunate are the members of the Rotary Cheadle Royal Group who have recently donated £100 to Food Friends at St Bart’s – Wilmslow and to the Chelwood Food Bank Plus – Cheadle Heath.
Leader of the group Rotarian Geoff Shelmerdine said: “We had considered purchasing extra food on our own shopping trips and then transferring this to a single delivery to each of the food banks but as restrictions continue to be introduced it made sense to donate funds for them to use to pay for their own requirements in support of those less fortunate.

This is Rotary at its best – helping to make a difference to people’s lives in our local community but let’s not forget those volunteers working at the food banks and applaud the time and commitment they provide in supporting people locked in poverty and destitution.”
