It has been the tradition of Wigan Rotary Club to invite the incumbent leader of Wigan Borough Council to join members for lunch and offer an opportunity to address him on matters of importance within the local community.
The Leader of WMB Council, Councillor David Molyneux attended a lunchtime meeting in January held by the Club at "The Owls" in Standish. He spoke in his usual factual and forthright manner, interspersed with good humour, where appropriate.
He had agreed to answer a number of questions. The topics included the Haigh Park Project, road repairs, rough-sleeping in the town centre, the redevelopment of the town centre which covered topics like the commercial, housing and recreational needs of the people and businesses in our borough plus job-creation strategies.
Wigan Council and Wigan Rotary Club share a proud history of joint ventures across the last 96 years that have been of benefit to the local community and we are proud of this liaison.
Club President Mervyn Reeves thanked David for joining us and giving his update and he assured him that our club looks forward to continuing in that vein, especially with the highly anticipated Wigan Rotary Club Centenary Event in 2024.
