The Congleton heat of the Rotary Young Photographer Competition posed some tough decisions for the judges. Eileen Jackson, Congleton Chronicle photographer, joined Rotary President, Rod Goodier and Eric Westwood, Chair of Youth Services who judged the entries.

In its first year, the competition attracted a number of high quality entries. In the senior category, the judges particularly commented on the creativity and technical ability of the photographers in interpreting the theme “Through my Eyes”. In particular, several of the entries told stories which were highly relevant to young people today or used their cameras to great creative effect.

The winner was Millie Goode from Congleton High School. The judges commented that the winning photograph told a dramatic story of a demonstration which needed no further explanation. It was part of a set of photographs submitted by Millie. Runners-up were Jasmine Holmes (2nd) and Lily Hancock (3rd), again from Congleton High School.

The Junior section for 7 – 10 year old photographers was won by Rosie Rowe, a pupil at Astbury St Mary's. As with the senior group, the winning photograph demonstrated a strong creative interpretation of the theme and demonstrates what can be achieved with a creative eye, an iPhone and the editing program that comes with it.

The entries are on display in Congleton Library until January 9th

The entrants will be invited to go forward to compete in the Rotary District heats.
