Biddulph Rotary held their Seniors level heat on the 25th November at The Victoria Centre. The teams taking part were from:
Biddulph High School, consisting of, Kieron Brondi, Emily Sanderson and Callum Harrop, who spoke about Mental Health.
Congleton High School, consisting of, Tom Darlington, Lucy Kennedy and Imogen Miller, who spoke about State v Independent sghools.
Congleton Eaton Bank Academy, consisting of Josh Everett, Helen Banks and Connor Harbridge, who spoke about The impact of Youth Groups on Young People.
The panel of judges consisted of His Honour, Judge David Fletcher CBE, Mrs Hilda Sheldon MBE, and Biddulph Chief Officer, Sarah Haydon.
In announcing the prize-winners David Fletcher commented on the extremely high standard achieved by the teams in both the presentation of their topics and the underlying research that had been done, and mentioned that the levels achieved did credit to the teachers and parents who had helped and encouraged the participants. He also said that it is extremely important that youngsters should develop the ability to stand up and speak to an audience, in both their future social and professional lives.
The prize-winners were the team from Eaton Bank Academy, who were presented with the Jack Lund Memorial Trophy. The prize-winner for the best individual speaker was Helen Banks also from the Eaton Bank Team,.
Rob Lomas, Biddulph Rotary Club President, thanked Rotn. Graeme Court, who had organised the evening and the judges, who had a difficult job in deciding on the winners. In particular he thanked the young people who had taken part and their teachers. He went on to say that it was very encouraging to see young people achieving such a high standard in an event like this, which showed that there are plenty of young people spending their time in useful and rewarding activities.
