The Rotary Club of Bolton With Le Moors identified a need for a Bereavement Garden within the Royal Bolton Hospital for use by families who have just visited the mortuary to see a loved one who has passed away.
Discussions were held with the mortuary manager and an area was made available by the hospital. The club organised and funded planters made by EMMAUS Bolton who donated the plants and compost for these. Staff at the hospital cleaned the area and created a memory wall for fastening ribbons onto in memory of their lost family member. A bench was also bought by the club and made by EMMAUS to provide somewhere for the families to sit whilst grieving.
The garden was officially opened by the Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Hilary Fairclough and the first family to use the Garden was invited to attend along with the executive leader of EMMAUS Bolton, our club President, Mark Relph and others from the club as well as hospital staff.
The staff will look after the garden from now on and we are sure it will have good use.
