The Rotary Club of Sandbach (Rotary Sandbach if you prefer) has a long tradition of contributing to the well-kept state of the town. On a couple of pleasant summer's evenings in August a group of Rotarians and friends descended on the town centre armed with glasspaper, paint and brushes and sought out benches and other street furniture in need of a bit of tlc.
The biggest task was weeding under the bench seats - something which hadn't been done properly for quite a while - before rubbing down and applying the paint and varnish. Their work did not go unnoticed: several people came to say how well the pristine, freshly-painted seats looked.
On the first occasion the pleasant sunny evening later turned into a downpour but, fortunately, no damage was done.
