The Rotary Clubs of Wigan and Golborne Lightshaw working together organised an adventure day for a group of 18 young carers from the Golborne and Wigan areas.
The youngsters, all of primary school age, have responsibilities looking after siblings or other family members; this adventure day gives them a few hours respite from their duties.
Held at Scotsmans Flash in Wigan, after a breakfast snack the children went out on the water in bell boats and then split into two groups, one taking to paddle boards, the other to kayaks.
Lunch was barbecue burgers and hot dogs cooked by members of both Rotary clubs.
After lunch the rain set in but it did not dampen the spirits of the youngsters who had a bushcraft lesson learning how to build a bivouac, start a camp fire and boil a Kelly Kettle.
Then it was back under cover to build bug hotels which the youngsters could take home and put in their gardens for the creepy crawlies.
The afternoon was rounded off with a session toasting marshmallows over a camp fire.
