At its Club meeting on 8th August, Biddulph Rotary installed its first Lady Member.
Sponsoring Janet Smith, Rotarian Jim Tiffney said that he had known Janet since he served as President of Biddulph Rotary and Janet was the President of the newly formed Congleton Dane Club, in 2001. He said that Janet had been an enthusiastic and hardworking Rotarian and expected that she would be an extremely useful member of Biddulph Rotary.
In inducting Janet, President Rob Lomas said that this was a momentous event for Biddulph, as although the club had been all male we have been trying, for several years, to attract lady members, and it is hoped that having, at last having got over the threshold, we can move quickly to making the club more equal.
In accepting membership Janet said how much she had enjoyed rotary previously and, now that she had fewer family commitments, she was looking forward to accepting, once again, the responsibilities of Membership.
