The Rotary Club of Sandbach celebrated another "first" at a recent meeting of the club.
Caroline Wilkie was inducted as a member by President of the club, Andy Wilkie - her father. Caroline, 22, who was a student at Sandbach High School and South Cheshire FE College, is a computer engineer in the family computer business in Sandbach.
She has helped at a number of Rotary events and projects over the last few years including home-hosting students from Macau and taking part in a Rotary meal-pack for the charity Mary's Meals.
Caroline was nominated by Rtn Bal Unnithan and in response to receiving her Rotary badge said that she wanted to help bring young people into Rotary to join some fantastic projects and to "make a difference". She is the youngest recruit to the club in its 74-year history.
She said that she was already in touch with the Interact Club of Sandbach and would reach out to other young people via social media, possibly forming a satellite Rotary club. The Rotary Club of Sandbach will be organising a meal-pack in 2020 and she said hoped to see a big input from young people.
At the same meeting, President Andy Wilkie made Councillor Mike Muldoon an honorary member of the club. Rtn Andy explained that it was a tradition to invite the Mayor of Sandbach to be an honorary member during their term of office.
Councillor Muldoon said that he was aware of the community work carried out for the town by Sandbach Rotary Club and was pleased to become an honorary member. He promised to return at a later date to update members on his activities as mayor and to enjoy their fellowship.
