Last Sunday was the 6 th Annual Heatons Open Gardens Day organised by the Rotary Club of Stockport Lamplighter.
The rain stayed away, the sun shone for part of the day and over 900 visitors flocked to see the gardens which were open to the public for the day As well as 17 private gardens the local allotment, tennis club and wine bar showed off their handiwork.
Members of the Heatons Womens Institute have spent the last six months knitting animals and insects which were displayed on railings and trees in the local park and attracted much interest.
Children from a local nursery school even showed off their love of gardening by presenting vegetables in their raised beds.
Altogether the individual gardens made just over £4,000 for charities of their own choice by selling plants and refreshments President of Lamplighter Clyde Raine took the District Governor Tony Graves round most of the gardens and both declared it a wonderful community day out.
