Last year Biddulph Rotary was surprised to get money from the Biddulph Troll Run organisers with a request to use it for ‘Good Causes’ donations. Rotary invited the organiser of the event, Scott Smith to a meeting to explain what the ‘Troll Run’ was all about. Scott explained that it was a 7000 metre run though the countryside including a number of obstacles, such as streams and muddy ponds, and in 2018 had been held in Biddulph Grange Park. Rotary was interested in helping with the event and President Elect, Rob Lomas, offered to host the event at Glebe Farm, with rotarians helping with running it.

Accordingly the 2019 Troll Run was held on Saturday, 13th April. The 2018 Run had been rainy, but this year the weather was dry and sunny although with a cold wind. However, about 300 competitors wanted to do the Run although only 220 could be accommodated. The first event was the ‘Mums and Kids’ Run at 1.2 Km, followed by the juniors event which was 1 lap of 3 Km.. The main Seniors event had to be split into two runs because of the number of competitors, each of 2 laps of the course.

All the competitors who completed the course got a medal. There were no winners as such although it was Luke, who was doing the run in aid of the cancer charity which was helping his wife, came home with the fastest time.

Despite the cold, everybody enjoyed the competition and there was a brisk trade in tea , coffee and hot sausage and bacon baps. Troll Run organiser, Scott said that next years event, which would also be at Glebe Farm ,would be expanded so that 400 competitors could take part.

Although it would be some time before the final figure is known, Scott expected that the total money raised, this year would be in excess of £2000. This will be distributed to local charities by Rotary.
