Rotarian Kate Turpie after unveiling the plaque with Corporal Bainbridge ( left ) and Sergeant Skelton
The Rotary Club of Stockport Lamplighter recently held their annual charity golf day at Northenden Golf Club
Organised by Rotarian Kate Turpie, also Lady Captain of the golf club, the day was a huge success despite the almost monsoon conditions.
18 teams took part and to date the massive sum of over £3,300 has been raised to be shared between Help for Heroes, Prostate Cancer and Rotary Charities
After the golf and continuing with the Help for Heroes theme Kate unveiled a plaque to commemorate the founder members of the golf club who lost their lives in WW1, in the presence of two members of the RAF, Corporal Bainbridge and Sergeant Skelton.
The plaque was to replace the original sadly lost when the Club House burnt down in 2014.
Lamplighters sold many raffle tickets with great interest being shown in the special raffle with the two prizes kindly donated by Old Boys at Manchester United. Firstly a large picture of Bobby Charlton, George Best and Dennis Law signed by Dennis himself. Secondly a limited edition tie commemorating the names of all those lost in the Munich Air Disaster
Raffle tickets are still being sold for these two tremendous prizes and will be drawn on 10th November.
Another great day of Lamplighters in the community
