Thanks to a generous donation of £5,000 by the Peel Charity Shop, the Rotary Club of Rushen & Western Mann have again responded to the urgent appeals for help to reach the people in countries that have recently suffered extreme disasters.
The Rotary Club have long been an active supporter of the Shelterbox Charity, providing emergency shelter and lifesaving supplies around the world to families who have lost everything.
This time the two charities have donated a total of £6,180 to Shelterbox, enough money to supply 10 shelterboxes. Each large Shelterbox is a disaster relief tent for a family and contains household essentials and much more, offering day to day living.
The people of Lombok in Indonesia require that support right now as they have recently been struck by a series of powerful earthquakes in the span of just three weeks.
It is hoped that Shelterbox will also be invited to support the Kerala Flood Appeal in India and continue to alleviate suffering in many disaster areas around the world.
Margaret Bowden, secretary of the Peel Charity Shop Commented we donated similarly to Shelterbox for the Haiti Disaster Appeal in 2016 and are again pleased to be able to help these poor people affected by such horrific disasters.
Hugh Logan, President of the Rotary Club of Rushen & Western Mann said in response thank you to Peel Charity Shop for the donation, it means that the Rotary Club can again support the Shelterbox Charity and the people in disaster areas around the world when they need it most.
