On Sunday 15th July, the Rotary Club of Rochdale held its second annual Classic Car and Bike Show at Littleborough Sports Club. Against the setting of Hollingworth Lake Country Park and with the glorious sunny weather a busy day was forecast.
220 classic cars and bikes had pre-registered on the show website, but almost 500 turned up on the day. The 4,000 visitors to the show could also visit the 70 stalls selling everything from cheese to pup cakes and crafts to car parts. We also had several fairground rides, birds of prey, dog agility and cheerleading displays plus entertainment from Sing! Littleborough choir, the GM Police Dixieland Jazz Band and the Matchstalk Men.
Various levels of sponsorship were obtained from RRG Skoda, Zen Internet and the Revilo Group along with a grant from the Pennine and Rochdale Township funds of Rochdale Borough Council. Whilst additional help with the stewarding of the event was provided by members of two local Masonic Lodges.
The blood, sweat and tears of the planning, organising and the day itself were proved to be fully worthwhile when all the sums were done, and we had raised over £12,000. We are already looking forward to the 2019 event.
