Fifty-seven youngsters who look after family members enjoyed a well-earned break when they had a day out at Lightwater Valley on 7th August, thanks to the combined efforts of the Rotary Club of Chadderton & Failsworth and the Rotary Club of Oldham.
The trip included transport, food and a small gift.
The Young Careers service - run by Positive Steps on Union Street - provide support and weekly respite for eight to 18-year-olds who look after a parent, sibling, family member or friend with a disability or a long-term illness.
The care they give may be practical, physical or emotional and includes helping with everything from cooking and cleaning to showering or dressing.
Comment from Tony Wright, club secretary -
Actually this event is a really good example of how some Clubs with ever - decreasing membership are overcoming the resulting staff shortages by working together. Not only with each other but with a much greater involvement of the Clubs' Inner Wheel Clubs than was historically the case.
