Charlie and Scott Smith were guests at last weeks meeting of Biddulph Rotary. and much to the members surprise, were there to make a donation to Rotary rather than to accept a donation from rotary to their chosen charity.
In making the donation of £400, Scott said that the money had been collected at the recent Biddulph 'Troll Run'.
This has become an annual event where the contestants try to complete a 10Km run through the worst terrain that can be found in Biddulph Grange Park, which always includes plenty of mud and water.
The 'challenge' has increased in popularity over the years and this year 130 contestants took part.
In accepting the donation, which will be used to support local charities and good causes, President John, said how pleased he was to hear of the growing success of the 'Troll Run' and hoped that Rotary would be able to help in the future.
Biddulph Rotary recently held their official 'Handover' meeting for the new Rotary year.
Introducing the meeting, Past President, Martrin Gravestock, said how proud he had been to hold the post and that John Robinson, (Biddulph Town Crier) would be a worthy successor. He then handed over the Presidential Chain of office and asked John to address the meeting.
John said how pleased he was to be elected President, and that he would continue most of the activities that served the local community, although he expected to make some changes.
New Member inducted at Biddulph Rotary
At a recent meeting of Biddulph Rotary Neil Sherratt was introduced by his sponsor, Mike Broom, and inducted as a new member by President John Robinson.
In inducting Neil, John reminded him of the aims of Rotary and the obligations that he would be expected to hold.
He also reminded the other members of the obligations they hold to Neil.
In accepting membership Neil said that he had worked for many years in the asbestos industry, but had recently become dissatisfied with the work and had decided to branch out on his own and open a café in Biddulph. Because of this, he expected to be in contact with the goings-on in the town.
